The former governor of Maryland is president of Smart Growth Americaâs Leadership Institute and the Governorsâ Institute on Community Design. In these roles, Glendening speaks across the country and all over the world about smart development, sustainability, global local weather change, transit oriented development, and fairness. He regularly addresses environmental advocacy teams, enterprise leaders, professional organizations, and public officials. As governor of Maryland ( ), Glendening created the nationâs first Smart Growth program. Prior elected places of work embody three phrases as county government of Prince Georgeâs County, Maryland, and 10 years as a city and county council member. He was elected president of the Maryland Association of Counties, the Democratic Governors Association, the National Governors Association, and the Council of State Governments. A highly regarded professor on the University of Maryland, College Park for 27 years, Glendening continues to be concerned in the National Academy of Public Administration as an elected Fellow and has served as senior advisor to the President and National Council of the American Society of Public Administration.
